Fat grafting

March 9, 2019

I met with Dr. Burdette and AmyJ Wednesday night and they want to do a fat graft (inject fat cells into my right breast). This helps rejuvenate cells and decrease “tightening” of the breast due to radiation. AmyJ took a look at my stomach and she’s like hmmmm.. not a huge amount to work with here. And i was like “ummm are we looking at the same bod”???? I have like 20 landmarks to choose from!! LOL! 😂 So the operation isn’t scheduled yet but will occur within the next month or so. It is a one day operation but she said it takes at least 2 weeks to heal. I guess it can be really painful in the area they remove the fat (so typically the abdomen). She told me I will need to wear an abdominal binder or spanx for compression. I YI YI!!! She also added a little saline to my left breast (if you remember they had to deflate both breasts before radiation). So we are pumping them back up! lol. She said she will leave the right side alone for now… she said “there is no way I am putting anything near that breast.. especially a needle”. I said thank you lol.

Discussing surgery

March 21, 2019

Hi everyone!

I saw Dr. Burdette & AmyJ tonight and we discussed my upcoming fat grafting surgery! It’ll be next Thursday the 28th at Elliot Rivers Edge/1 day surgery floor! It’s basically liposuction except after they inject the fat cells into my right breast! Hey A little wild.. but they say there is evidence that it helps with fibrosis (hardening of the breast) and tightening due to radiation. While I was there last night they also injected a little more saline into both breast. I feel like I’m happy with the size I’m at right now but AmyJ assured me I can still change the size at any point and really can make that decision up until the end of August when the implants go in. Wow guys…. did I ever think in my wildest dreams I would have LIPO AND FAKE BOOBS!!??? 😂😂 Craziness!

I guess fat grafting is a big deal?

March 27, 2019

OK so apparently this whole fat graft thing is kind of a big deal. I thought it was this quick easy procedure at Elliot rivers edge. Ummmmm no lol. I received a call from the nurse on Tuesday to go over details and she said it is at the hospital and the actual surgery will be approximately 2 1/2hrs long with a 2hr recovery! I will have general anesthesia and be completely out. I yi yi!!! He better get every fat cell in my stomach hahah!!! 😂 So much for my “simple no-big-deal” procedure. But whatever I got over it in like 2 seconds. Lol honestly I have become so numb to treatment, surgery’s, procedures the past year that nothing really seems “scary” anymore. Just another day in the OR LOL!!

Ill try and blog tomorrow night to let everyone know how it went!!

Much love,

Surgery cancelled…

March 28, 2019

I yi yi!! So my Mom and I got to the hospital and I start all the pre-op stuff including vitals, changing into a Johnny, etc. My favorite part is when they put this huge heated blow-up mattress over me! I seriously could stay in this thing for days hahah I love being warm and toasty!!! I’ll post a picture of it in my gallery so you can see what it looks like 🙂 So anyways after an hour and a half of prepping the anesthesiologist comes in to chat and I mentioned feeling off with a sore throat and headache. I also mentioned that my daughter has been pretty sick with a head cold the past few days. Immediately he was concerned. He explained that during general anesthesia they have to keep an open airway and any infection that is brewing could potentially be pushed into the lungs and therefore a little cold could turn into pneumonia. Yikes! At first I was bummed because I really wanted to get it over with but I truly believe everything happens for a reason! And Dr. Burdette came in and said he agreed with him. He said it’s just not worth taking the risk and we can easily reschedule for a few weeks out. So today just wasn’t meant to be and that’s ok! We re-scheduled for April 12th!

Thanks Mom for driving and hanging out with me today and thank you Gram and Pops for watching the kiddos! ❤️

Kpowpow! 🤜

Oh and thank you to all my friends and family who have offered to donate their fat cells! LOL 😂🤣 as always everyone is so generous and so willing to help out hahah! Love you all!!

Fat grafting surgery was a success!

April 12, 2019

I had my surgery today! Only took an hour and a half with a short recovery period of an hour or so at the hospital! Already home and resting in bed. My right breast hurt pretty bad when I woke up and now my lower back hurts quite a bit. You would think my abdomen would hurt!? 🤷‍♀️ Who knows! Dr. Burdette said surgery went really well though and they were able to inject 50mLs of fat into the breast. I’ll keep you posted!

Post-op fat grafting day 1

April 14, 2019

I pretty much slept the entire day away! I was super tired and my breast/stomach region was definitely sore. But good news is my back is feeling SO much better today and I’m taking Advil around the clock which helps take the edge off. The Bolducs were a huge help today! Kim brought Andi to dance class and then Jamie and Joey kept the kids busy playing outside which was really nice to have a quiet home to recover in! My sister also delivered a turkey wrap from pizza market which made my day. Thank you guys!! My outfit these days include high waisted spanx, abdominal binder and tight tank. The compression is good for healing but dang I feel like I’m wrapped up in a cocoon!!

Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend and enjoying this warm weather ☀️

My new oncologist is AMAZING & I started Tamoxifen

March 15, 2019

I met my new oncologist, Barbara Civiello on Monday! She is located in Dover at Wentworth-Douglas hospital. She spent 1hr and 30mins with me and I was beyond impressed. She first went over my entire history and made me feel like she really cares to know every detail!!! She then went into detail about what we need to do from here. She highly suggested a daily medication called Tamoxifen. This can decrease your chances of breast cancer reoccurrence by 50%!!! (Ummm… Yes please!!) lol. She said there are also additional meds and injections you can do to decrease reoccurrence. This would include monthly shots and more pills. She went into detail about the options but wants me to see another oncologist at Dana Farber who specializes in this to get a better understanding and therefore be able to make a confident decision. She made it sound like this would be “over kill” and she doesn’t necessarily think I need it. We will see?!? The nurse navigator Heather was SO nice and helped me with my radiation burns and gave me a huge box of dressings. I left with a big smile on my face. VERY pleased!!! And a big thank you to Dr. Brower for referring me. So blessed to have the team I have… it finally feels complete 😊

Happy Friday!!! Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Started Tamoxifen right away!!

March 21, 2019

I started the Tamoxifen! Literally started a day after seeing my new oncologist. When she said it would decrease my reoccurrence rate by 50% I was so anxious to get started!!! Dr. Civilleo said there is a 60% non-compliance rate (meaning 60% of patients forget to take it every day). At first I was like… how??? I mean this pill could potentially save your life and someone forgets to take it?!?! Either way I didn’t want to become that 60% so I put a container right next to my bathroom sink with a small calendar, my medicine and water in it. I mark every day I take it!! So far I haven’t missed a day 🙂

In the process of setting up an appointment at Dana Farber in Boston. I am SO happy I advocated for myself and found a new oncologist. I feel like my old oncologist literally would have been like.. “yup start tamoxifen every day.. see you in 3 months, bye”. Lol instead Dr. Civilleo had a 90 minute detailed conversation with me in regards to post-treatment AND sending me to Dana Farber to see the best of the best!! I seriously can’t stress the importance of advocating for yourself!! So important.

Life is good right now. My radiation burns are almost completely healed!!! It was crazy how bad they got so quickly but healed just as fast!! The fatigue is much better and every little bit of “normalcy” that enters my life makes me smile. Spending every day with Andi and Zacky without the interruption of “cancer stuff” makes me so happy!! I remember wanting my old life back SO bad when I was in the heat of treatment and almost a year later here we are! There are a lot of battle scars I’m sure I will have to deal with but for right now I’m totally on cloud 9 feeling “normal” again 🙂

I go back to work on April 1st! Yay!! Ill continue working per-diem and do week nights 6p-11p and weekends)! It truly is the best schedule in order to stay home with the kids! Jamie and I typically see way less of each other especially if I pick up a lot of shifts but it works!!

I guess I should go to bed now lol!

Good night!! 🌙😴

YouTube- How I take care of my radiation burns

March 9, 2019

I added a few videos to my YouTube channel!! One of them is showing my radiation burns and the other is how I take care of them!! The link is below! I watched YouTube videos of other survivors throughout my journey and I found it helpful. I still follow this one girl who has leukemia, she is in high school and SO beautiful and inspiring. I remember watching a video of her when she was bald and I was like WOW… if this girl can go to high school every day (a place where you care SO much what your friends think of you) and have a positive attitude then I can too. Not that I will ever be that inspiring LOL.. but hopefully I will make a difference for someone out there!

Radiation burns are NO JOKE

March 5, 2019

Oh my!! So the radiation burns are starting to become super painful!!!! The actual breast area is tolerable but under my armpit KILLS! The skin is like a dark red/maroon color and is starting to peel!!! So I have a ton of open areas. On days I stay home I don’t even bother wearing a bra and actually have been wearing Jamie’s tshirts!  The baggier the better!! I find myself just lifting my arm up to the side all day so it doesn’t hit my pit lol! I yi yi! Currently in bed… took 800mg of Advil, smeared a thick layer of lidocaine cream on, and wrapped an ice pack under my pit. I was able to sleep through the night yesterday and did the following so I’m praying it works tonight 🙏 I called Lisa today (Dr. Browers nurse) and it sounds like it should get better from here on out. Also she will be asking Dr. Brower to prescribe more lidocaine cream because I’m getting low. The fatigue is also sticking with me. I find myself doing TV time with the kids a little more often then usual lol! And some days I can barely stay awake. It’s like way worse then chemo fatigue. I literally go from 100 to 0 in seconds!

This is a “I’m irritable and in pain” kind of post lol! Don’t worry.. my next post will be more uplifting! 😂

OFFICIALLY DONE RADIATION AND ALL BREAST CANCER TREATMENT

February 28, 2019

I DID IT!! I am officially done radiation and all breast cancer treatment!! I can’t fricken believe it! After radiation was complete the girls gave me a diploma and brought me down the hallway to “ring the bell”. I was like “that sounds like fun”! I got to the end of the hallway… looked at the bell and started balling my eyes out lol!! Who would’ve thought a damn bell would be so emotional!!! Haha I wasn’t expecting that but it felt really good to ring that bell loud and proud! I said goodbye to my wonderful nurse Lisa & the amazing Dr. Brower. Luckily I will see them again in 4 months for a follow-up 🙂

Hubby called and wanted to have lunch with me so we went to my favorite local spot with the kiddos… OLLIES! The kids were being.. well kids at one point and I looked at Jamie and said “So much for a nice quiet lunch” and in that same breath I said “I wouldn’t have it any other way!” 😊 Being with my 3 favorite people in the world was the best celebration I could’ve asked for!

I am forever grateful to all my friends & family for all the love and support the past year. I would’ve crumbled if it weren’t for you. LOVE YOU ALL!

Continue the blog or not continue the blog… that is the question! What do you guys think??

Radiation makes you tired

February 24, 2019

So this past week I was so sick! It started Monday with chest congestion and by Tuesday I had the chills/body aches, stuffy nose and coughing. YUCK!! I haven’t been that sick in a long time. I’m still coughing but don’t feel like death anymore!! My MIL&FIL took the kids all day Wednesday and I literally didn’t leave my couch. It was really nice to get a full day of rest (thank you guys SO much for that).

I still managed to get to radiation every day! I really started noticing symptoms this week. Obviously I was sick so it’s hard to tell if I was tired from being sick or from the radiation …but the past week I have been exhausted!!! I go from being fine to barely being able to keep my eyes open and my skin is getting CRISP! Lol!! Yikes… it looks like a sunburn at this point. Large area under my armpit, the entire breast and then a little on my upper chest. It’s a pretty large area. I started going braless .. its just uncomfortable to wear anything tight. My nurse Lisa also hooked me up with a large dressing/pad that I can put on the area. This just gives a nice barrier between my skin and clothes and then also helps when holding/hugging the kids!

My last day of radiation will either be this Wednesday or Thursday. Dr. Brower isn’t 100% sure yet. Either way next week is my LAST week. So excited 👏

Just a little reminder_my benefit is this weekend!! Nimbus 9 will be playing a show on Saturday March 2nd at the Derryfield Country Club @9:30 PM! This event is open to the public… so anyone is welcome!!! Looking forward to dancing the night away and celebrating the fact that treatment will be DONE!!! Ahhhhhh! Can’t believe it 😬😬

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE BEST HUSBAND IN THE WORLD!!! We had a nice little celebration last night at Sam and Tim’s new home. Taco dinner, ice cream cake, lots of catching up, laughing, kids playing/having fun! It was a really nice night!! ❤️

Ok… back to bed!! Haha I tend to do this a lot (wake up randomly… can’t sleep… play on my phone… toss and turn and eventually fall back to sleep) lol!

Goodnight 💤😴

Port removal

February 10, 2019

On Friday I went to CMC hospital to have my port removed! Just a recap… a port is a device that is surgically placed under your skin and located on the left or right side of your chest. Looks like a small disk that is attached to a catheter. They would access this instead of having to put an IV in my arm every time! Plus the red devil can literally eat your arm off if it leaks out. Uhhhh… no thanks lol!! I was SO happy to say goodbye. It’s like one more thing done to get closer to the finish line.

So the doc introduced himself and said “this procedure is a piece of cake and super easy. I will numb the area with lidocaine, make an incision and pull it out”. Bahhhhh! LIAR!! Lol I’m lying on the table and literally feel like im a fricken car being worked on by a mechanic. He said because I’m young and healthy there was a ton of scar tissue and a thick fibrous sheath over it! He said I was one of his hardest cases! What should’ve taken 5mins took 30!!!! Do I have bad luck or something??? Lol luckily I couldn’t feel any pain and just pressure of him trying to tug it out of my chest! Like I was waiting for him to put his leg up on the table to get leverage. Hahaha felt SO weird!! The staff was great though! There were 2 techs in the room, a nurse and the doc. We ended up chatting the whole time and making jokes/laughing!

Tomorrow starts week 4 of rad!
Lets do this  💪

Oh and I was exhausted for like 2 days straight last week. I was like dang this radiation is really starting to affect me. Nope… one night Jamie said “next time you get Kcups can you make sure not to get decaf”. Bahahah 😂😂

XOXO ❤️

Radiation equipment pics & looking for new oncologist!

January 25, 2019

Radiation went great the past 2 days. Lasted 5 minutes tops! I felt kind of weird asking to take pics of the equipment lol but I thought it would be cool to show you what this stuff looks like.. especially THE SNORKEL! 😆

HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEKEND!! ❤️❤️

Looking forward to a night out with Jamie, my sis & bro tomorrow night!! I’ll be having an extra tall beer after this week lol!!

February 5, 2019

Radiation is going well and flying by! Tomorrow will be 2 1/2 weeks! Definitely some redness and irritation to the area and it started getting really itchy yesterday! My cousin Michelle has been helping me with skin care products though which I am so grateful for! Mimi and Gram take turns watching the kids while I am gone which is wonderful! (I have the best Moms in the world!) ❤️

I spoke with Dr. Brower and his nurse Lisa in regards to finding a new oncologist. I also reached out to Dr. Patel through email. Most doctors would just email back… nope not her she called and talked to me on the phone for 15 minutes! She’s simply amazing and cares SO much about her patients! They all suggested NHOH facility in Hooksett. I will be seeing Dr. Selleck and have an appointment scheduled with her in March. Dr. Brower said she’s a younger physician which I like.. I haven’t had the best luck with the Q-tips! Whooops did I say that out loud? 😳 LOL! Before I say too much I’ll end with ….I’m looking forward to a new fresh start!!

Jamie and I are trying really hard to stay healthy! We’ve been sticking to a Whole Foods diet with lots of vegetables, fruits and whole grains! Minus Olive Garden on Saturday night which involved the tour of Italy, a bottle of red wine followed by strawberry sundays when we got home 😂 Hey… I said were trying lol! I’m also doing Joeys trampoline class on Tuesday nights which I love!! Such a good workout and I get to throw in a little gymnastics while I’m there!

MUCH LOVE
